Many people who call our facility are surprised to learn that we are not a distributor of rigid plastic boxes. That’s right, Alpha Rho is purely a manufacturer of plastic boxes—we play no part in their distribution (outside of shipping orders to our customers). We are proud of our “Made in the USA” declaration and do everything in our power to back it up. To clear up some confusion, we’ve decided to address why it’s so important for us to run our business through domestic means. Broken down below are our top reasons for keeping our supply chain within the United States.
- Quality Over Quantity
At Alpha Rho, the quality of our materials and manufacturing processes are always a top priority. We source all of our raw materials from domestic sources to guarantee their purity. Too many distributors have fallen into hot water by importing suspect materials from other countries. By sourcing domestically, we are able to maintain close relationships with our suppliers who continue to provide materials that meet our stringent specifications. Once we receive our materials, we engage in hands-on production and manufacturing right in our Fitchburg, MA facility. With all manufacturing kept in-house, we are able to maintain 100% control over our entire process, from raw material to final product—allowing our customers complete transparency into our methodology and ensuring the products we deliver are of the highest quality.
- Problems Can Be Addressed Quickly
Another great benefit of keeping our supply chain within the USA is that unexpected situations can be addressed quickly. If we receive defective materials, it takes little effort to call our supplier to explain the problem—no language barriers or time zone conflicts to navigate here. Once the problem has been addressed, it can be quickly resolved because most of our supplies reside within a six hours’ driving time from our facility—meaning we could receive our new materials that same day. With outsourcing overseas, when problems arise, it can be difficult to solve them quickly and efficiently. Shipping can take ages and your message may not even be received correctly. Keeping everything close to home has saved us numerous logistical nightmares during our 50+ years in business and gives us the ability to meet our customers’ needs on a timely basis.
- Cost Savings
While cost savings isn’t usually a benefit associated with sourcing domestically, in our case it is. With many of our partnerships being within New England, we actually save a fair bit of money in shipping and logistics’ costs because of the close proximity. Sure, we could probably source our materials from China for a cheaper product/unit price, but the hidden costs of these relationships add up—shipping is more expensive and issues that arise can be extremely time-intensive to solve. Keeping everything simple and local allows us to pass our savings down to you in the form of reasonably priced high-grade products.
- Supporting the Local Economy
Supporting our local economy is something we pride ourselves on. When you buy from a local business, that money is far more likely to stay in your community compared to purchasing from a large corporation. Our local community’s support is one of the biggest reasons we’ve been in business for over 50 years, and we like to reciprocate that effort. Sourcing our materials from local vendors is only part of the puzzle; we’ve also done numerous donations to our community and have taken serious strides with sustainability initiatives. We fight for longevity in our community and we’re lucky to operate in a resource-rich area such as Fitchburg. The success of our community is intimately tied to our own, and this is something we will never lose sight of.
